How to Find Time to Read When You're a Busy Working Mom
I know that this blog is not the NYT Sunday Book Review or a website version of a Bookstagram account, but...
As you should know by now, I do love to read.
And I read a lot of great books in 2023 and so in case you have the desire to read more in 2024, I wanted to get this list posted while it was still fresh on my mind.
My secret to reading as much as I do while raising three kids, running a thriving coaching practice, and everything else that life entails, is finding books that I love.
Books that I can't wait to get back to.
Books that are better than any show or social media feed.
Books that make me want to find the next great book as soon as I finish the current one.
They say that life's too short not to read what you love. And I think the easiest way to find books that you love is through the recommendations of those you know and trust.
So below is my list of the top 23 books I read in 2023. But know that there were SO MANY MORE amazing books (I read a 141 in total this year!).
But before you get lost in the list below, I want you to know that I started my reading routine years ago while I was on maternity leave with my second child.
I was tired of scrolling social media feeds every time I was nursing or holding a sleeping baby, which was hours each day and night, and so I checked out an eBook from the library and read on my phone because it was easy to hold and always with me.
Not the ideal scenario, I much preferred physical books at that point, but I loved the way I felt after reading. (Read more about how I fit reading reading into my life here.)
That year I read 4 books.
The next year, when my third child was born, I read 29.
In 2020, I read 34.
Then 49.
Last year, I read 70.
And this year I read 141.
Along the way, I tweaked and updated my routine, found the genres and authors that I love, started a local book club, and so much more.
If you want to start reading or want to read more this year, it's totally possible with a rhythm and routine that works for you.
Come to my free workshop - Reset Your Routines - on January 9th and we can walk through the process of getting started together. You'll learn how to create a sustainable routine that will stick.
Whether it's a reading, morning, meal panning, budgeting, or any other routine, you can apply the framework and customize it to your life.
